In Dearneways of Goldthorpe and their colony of Burlingham Seagulls the author, Stuart Emmett, examines Dearneways, a bus operator founded in 1949 in the heart of the South Yorkshire coalfield. Dearneways was set up by father and son Percy and Maurice Phillipson who purchased a 1938 Albion for use on private hires. NCB contract work followed, and then day-trip business. In 1956 the firm was granted a licence for excursions and tour work, and in 1964 began operating a stage route from Thurnscoe to Sheffield.
The book is in chronological order, telling the Dearneways story through to the takeover by SYPTE in 1981. It is packed with photos of the developing Dearneways fleet, which consisted of coaches, and both double deck and single deck buses, all of which have been located and identified in the picture captions.
9 colour and 56 black & white photographs. 48 pages.
