A highly detailed history of the Saxon Class XII H2 steam locos (also nicknamed “sächsische Rollwagen” or Saxonian rollers) built for the Königlich Sächsische Staatseisenbahnen between 1910 and 1927, specifically for the mountainous areas of Saxony in eastern Germany.

The book describes their design and technical features, and their areas of operation from each depot where they were based. Locos exported to Belgium, France, Poland, the USSR, Czechoslovakia and Hungary are also featured, and there is a chapter on preserved loco 38 205 and a colour section.
