The first title in this new series looking at Scotland’s railways in the years between 1980 and 1993.
At the time these perhaps didn’t feel like they would ever be described as the 'Classic Diesel Years’, but these were the times when the successors to the steam trains were operating under BR and before Privatisation. In 64 of author Tom Heavyside's own photographs from this era the book shows many of them at work on the 188 rail miles of the scenic Highland Mail Line between the ‘Fair City’ and the ‘Highland Capital’.
Locations featured include Pitlochry, Dalwhinnie, Blair Atholl, Aviemore, Newtonmore, Carrbridge, Slochd and many more. Photographs are presented in one-per-page format with a caption accompanying each. 56 pages.
