Part of the Classic Diesels series, this volume features the 108 miles connecting Inverness and Aberdeen, Scotland's two northern cities. The north of Scotland is sparsely-populated, and features a largely unspoilt landscape so creating one of Britain’s scenic railways. Although remote it was an early BR target to eliminate steam traction, diesel units started appearing in July 1958 and two years later had largely replaced steam. In terms of diesels, in April 1980, Class 27s replaced DMUs on the Inverness-Aberdeen passenger service, then from the mid-1980s Class 47s took charge, supplemented by Class 37s. In 1994, Class 158s took over.

In Classic Diesel Years: Inverness to Aberdeen the author, Tom Heavyside, has selected photographs which he took throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s, and he has accompanied them with extended, informative captions. The images cover Dyce, Union Terrace, Inverurie, Kennethmont, Huntly, Glenfiddich Distillery, the Spey Viaduct, Forres, Elgin East, Nairn and various other locations.

The photographs are generally displayed in one-per-page format. 57 black & white photographs. 48 pages
