Classic Diesel Years: Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh & Wick is the second title in a series by Tom Heavyside looking at Scotland’s railways in the years between 1980 and 1993.

These were the times when BR was operating the successors to steam trains and Tom has used his own photographs, taken during this period, to show Class 26s and 37s at work on the line. The images also incorporate the glorious scenery of the Scottish Highlands, on routes which managed to evade the Beeching and later axes, due to their remoteness and utility as winter lifelines.

Pictures also feature a Class 08 shunter working at Inverness, Test Coach Iris on the branch to Kyle of Lochalsh and a privately preserved ex-Great Western Railway Brake First Class saloon at Kyle of Lochalsh.

Locations illustrated include Inverness, Clachnaharry, Lentran, Muir of Ord, Dingwall, Conon Bridge, Garve, Achnasheen, Strathcarron, Kyle of Lochalsh, Ardgay, Brora, Helmsdale, Georgemas Junction, Thurso, Wick and more. Descriptive captions accompany the photographs.

69 black & white photographs. 56 pages.
