Since 2002, the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust has been based at Bridgeton Bus Garage in Glasgow, the only former Glasgow Corporation bus garage still in existence today. The aim of the GVVT is to inspire and encourage with the preservation, restoration and, where possible, the running of the many vehicles based there. It is currently home to over 120 vehicles, mainly buses formerly to be found running around Glasgow, and includes various rare and historic examples. Many of the vehicles have been fully restored to their former glory, providing visitors with a unique chance to take a trip down memory lane.
In GVVT - The Restored Collection the authors’, Phil Halewood and Keith McGillivray, concentrate their attention on a large number of the vehicles, most privately owned, which have been restored to their original service condition. They give a profile for each vehicle featured which includes the name of the operator, the Registration Number and the year new into service, along with the chassis and body details. This is then followed by information on the main aspects of the vehicle’s service life, such as owners and operators, along with the areas where it has been in operation.
