Gresley's D49s follows the career of this important class of steam locomotive which were in service between 1927 and 1961.
The class was introduced by the London & North Eastern Railway for intermediate passenger trains, with the locomotives being designed by world-renowned locomotive designed Sir Nigel Gresley. The locomotives mainly operated around the North East of England and in Scotland during their lifetimes.
This book contains over 180 high quality black & white photographs illustrating the locomotives at work around this area, covering both the LNER and British Railways eras. Photographs cover many of the 76 D49s built, including the only preserved class member, which can be found at the Bo'ness & Kinneil railway in Scotland.
