From the Camel to the Exe: Padstow to Exeter in the Days of Steam has been compiled by Jeffery Grayer from images taken by Terry Gough, Gerald Daniels, Dick Riley, and many others, whose photographic collections have passed into the safe keeping of the Transport Treasury.

Passing through the scenic countryside lying between the River Camel and the River Exe, the book takes the route from Padstow to Exeter. From Bulleid pacifics and the graceful Greyhounds to the humblest tank locomotive, and not ignoring the architecture of its wayside stations, the photographers cameras captured images from the dying days of steam on this section of the sorely missed Withered Arm.

Also features a chapter covering the ‘Greyhounds’, the T9 class locomotives used by the London and South Western Railway, which were given their nickname as a result of their speed and reliability.
