This is the first of a series of 12 books being published by Transport Treasury in 2025 showcasing railway works and centres to commemorate “Rail 200”, the 200th anniversary of passenger-carrying railways.

Eastleigh Works was established by the London & South Western Railway in 1891 and became the principal works for the Southern Railway after the Grouping in 1923. This is an album of photographs taken in and outside the works from its early days to the present day, showing the various loco and unit types that have been built and maintained there.

Most of the photographs are of Southern Railway steam locos and diesel and electric locos and units from the SR and BR eras, including several examples of locos and units undergoing maintenance. Loco classes visiting from other regions are also featured. Some of the photos were taken during works open days.

Superbly illustrated with around 40 colour and 40 black & white photos. Hardback. 80 pages.
