A comprehensive account of the introduction of internal combustion railcars to the railways of Lithuania between 1919 and 1940. Includes a brief history of Lithuanian railways and looks at the various domestic and European manufacturers that supplied Lithuanian railways in the first half of the 20th century.

An introduction to Lithuanian railways is followed by chapters looking at the various types of internal combustion railcars used during this period. These include narrow gauge railcars, narrow gauge four-axle railcars, draisines and motor locomotives. Standard gauge motorised railbuses and railcars are covered in further chapters, including the Ganz-built high-speed railcars.

An epilogue goes on to examine the effect these early railcars on future rolling stock in both Lithuania and beyond. Well-illustrated throughout with black & white photographs and tabulated data.

Text in English and Lithuanian. Hardback. 240 pages.
