The third volume of this encyclopaedia of French locomotive and multiple unit types. This volume covers early electric locomotives, which is defined as those where the first of the type was built before 1960.
For each type, a short history is provided, along with a table of basic technical details. Black & white and colour diagrams are used to illustrate each type of locomotive, including sub-classes, and many of the liveries carried during their working lives. Photographs of most types are also included.
Locomotive types are arranged by pre-nationalisation operator, with a further chapter covering locomotives built for SNCF.
