This A4 sized “bookazine” type publication takes a nostalgic look back at the then West German Deutsche Bundesbahn network of the 1970s and 1980s when many of the DB’s locos and coaches sported a blue/beige colour scheme – hence the title. Most vehicles that carried this livery were blue below and beige above, but the opposite was true on some coaches and on Hamburg S-Bahn EMUs, for example.
As well as the liveries of that era, other topics covered include:
- The end of steam traction
- New loco and unit classes introduced in the 1970s and 1980s
- Line closures
- New train categories: Intercity (initially as a first class only service in 1971, then two-class from 1979), Eurocity, Fern-Express (FD), InterRegio
- Routes upgraded for higher speeds (Ausbaustrecken) and the first high speed lines (Neubaustrecken)
- The 150 years of German railways celebrations in 1985
Published 2011. Over 200 photos, mostly colour. 98 pages. German text. Softback. Original Price £13.95
