Towards the end of the steam era on Austria's railways, photographers regularly chased the older steam locomotive classes to photograph them before their withdrawal. The more modern steam locomotive classes, such as the Class 42, 50, 52 and 152s were largely ignored as they were deemed less interesting.
However, Franz Kraus took many photographs of these classes during the latter years of steam and his images have gone on to provide a valuable record of these lesser-documented locomotive types.
This book contains a selection of his photographs of these locomotive types in action around Austria, mostly operating freight trains. An introduction to the classes is included and each photograph is accompanied by a caption. German text. Hardback. 120 pages.
