The Class 111 electric locomotives were designed to replace the remaining pre-war electric locomotives on Germany's railways. A total of 227 of these 160 km/h locomotives were introduced between 1974 and 1984.
The class initially saw service on long-distance passenger trains, but as newer classes replaced them, they found themselves cascaded to S-Bahn services.
This DVD traces the working lives of these versatile locomotives. German commentary. 58 minutes running time.
