Swindon has played an important role in the railway industry from its Victorian era roots right through to the present day. Once a major locomotive building town, today it is a busy station on the Great Western main line from London Paddington to Bristol, Cardiff, Devon and Cornwall.
In this book, author Garry Stroud has compiled a selection of his photographs taken around Swindon and the surrounding area between the late 1960s and late 1980s. This was a period of transition on the Western Region as diesel-hydraulic locomotives were giving way to diesel-electric power and the introduction of HSTs on main line services.
The book contains high quality colour photographs, each accompanied by a caption as well as an introduction to railways around Swindon. 96 pages.
