British Rail operated thousands of shunting locomotives during its time, many built by private companies and others by BR itself. Most have now been withdrawn, but fortunately a large number have been saved for posterity by various different preservation groups and heritage railways.
Preserved Shunters, by Andrew Cole, contains a collection of colour illustrations showing many of these saved shunters. They are captured in a wide range of conditions, from largely abandoned wrecks through to gleaming restored masterpieces. Many still provide invaluable service at the sites at which they have found new homes.
The book covers classes 01 to 12 inclusive, and Class 14 and shows them in a range of different liveries and at a wide variety of locations around the country. The photographs are presented mainly in two-per-page format, with captions that give a brief outline of how the locomotives ended up in preservation. 96 pages.
