Norfolk Rail: 25 Years of the Wherry Lines focuses on the loco-hauled passenger trains which ran from 1994 to 2019 on Norfolk’s Wherry Lines.
Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft were popular destinations for summer services running from London, the Midlands and the North. Holiday makers, and visitors to events such as the Lowestoft Airshow, meant that along with long-distance loco-hauled services, diesel traction was also used to supplement the local trains. Whilst these services gained a significant following from enthusiasts and photographers alike, they were not the only workings to bring unusual traction to the area, a wide range of locomotives were used over the years, culminating in the popular Greater Anglia ‘short set’. These occurrences finally came to an end in September 2019 with the arrival of a large fleet of new Stadler units.
