This book provides an illustrated review of railways and rolling stock operated by the Ministry of Defence, with most photographs dating from between the mid-1980s and the early 2000s.
From their peak in the 1950s and 1960s, military railways have been in decline, with many being taken out of use as units have closed down or changed to road transport. This book examines the rolling stock used at a number of locations, both standard and narrow gauge, and also at the track and infrastructure of these largely unknown railways.
An introduction to the MOD's railways is followed by a series of colour and black & white photographs taken at military locations around Britain (plus a few images of MOD railways abroad). Each photograph is accompanied by a caption providing information about the location and rolling stock pictured. 96 pages.
