Following the electrification of the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh, 31 Class 91 locomotives were ordered and entered service between 1988 and 1991.

Known as ‘Inter-City 225s’ due to their 140mph/225km/h capability, they accomplished three decades in service, donning multiple new identities and liveries as privatisation shuffled and reshuffled ownerships.

In recent years, they have been replaced for the most part by Class 800/801 ‘Azuma’ units, but some remain on LNER services to Leeds and York.

The book concludes with an overview of the Driving Van Trailers (DVTs) designed specifically for use with Mk4 coaching stock operating on the East Coast Main Line.

The 46 members of the dual-voltage Class 92 fleet were constructed between 1993 and 1996 with the aim of expanding operations through the Channel Tunnel. Though the proposed Nightstar passenger sleeper services did not materialise, the 92s established themselves on freight operations.

Several have been sold abroad to continue this role in Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia. Containing more than 200 colour images, this volume offers a pictorial look at these AC electrics at work from their introduction in the 1990s to the present day. Photographs are presented in two-per-page format, with captions accompanying each. 96 pages.
