1933 saw the publication of the first diagrammatic London Underground map covering the entire network, designed by Harry Beck. This map has formed the basis for all subsequent versions ever since. However, the Metropolitan Railway had opened the first Underground line 70 years earlier in 1863 between Paddington and Farringdon Street.
This book looks at the growth of the Underground system in each decade since then, with one entry for the two decades from 1981 to 2000 and one for 2001 to 2023. Each entry consists of a summary of main developments such as new trains introduced and line and station openings and closures on the left-hand page and a map of the network as at the end of the period in question on the right. Hardback. 32 pages.
