The remarkable story of how one of the largest and most significant collections of railway memorabilia in Great Britain came to be accumulated in a redundant water tower at a school in Doncaster.
This incredible collection was put together over many years by transport expert and enthusiast, Tony Peart, and kept under lock and key at the former Doncaster Grammar School. Not only did access to the collection require special invitation, it also involved an arduous climb, not for the faint-hearted, into the school’s disused water tower!
More recently, the collection has been entrusted to the care of Doncaster Council and is accessible to all in the magnificent new Danum Gallery Library and Museum in the town.
Treasures in the Tower tells the story of how the collection was amassed and subsequently saved for preservation and public display. It looks at the key players in the story and describes some of the most important exhibits within the collection. Well illustrated. 60 pages.
