This book is the diary of Thomas Baron, giving details of the many different roles he fulfilled at the London & North Western Railways in the 19th century.. Baron started work as a cleaner for the LNWR at Preston in 1855, before progressing to be a fireman and later, Running Shed Foreman at Abergavenny in 1862. He kept a record of what work he did during this period, so this book gives an insight into the work of an engineman during the mid-19th century. Contains a full reprint of his diary and further text adds interpretation, background information and illustrations. 134 pages.
