Railway enthusiast Mike King and Henry Casserley’s granddaughter Mary Casserley have put together this collection of Mr Casserley’s photos taken at or near Bromley South station when he lived by the lineside in the 1930s.
A variety of steam locos are featured, including Stirling B1 and F1 classes, an ex-London & South Western Railway Drummond T9, an ex-LSWR King Arthur class and a Schools class, to name but a few. Notable trains depicted include the Golden Arrow, the Night Ferry, and various steam-hauled Kent coast expresses, commuter trains, freights, and inter-regional excursions.
A couple of EMUs are also included for good measure. At the back there are appendices listing all loco types seen at Bromley between 1931 and 1939, terminating services, and boat trains. These are followed by the records from the photographer’s log book for each year during the period covered, although that for 1939 runs only until March when Mr Casserley moved out of the area.
Contains approximately 150 black & white photographs. Hardback. 176 pages.
