An illustrated history of railways around Retford, Worksop and the Sherwood Forest from the early years of the railways through to the present day. This area was home to a large number of coal mines, which supported a complex network of branch lines.
A history of railways in the area is followed by chapters of black & white photographs including pictures of stations, goods yards, locomotive depots and all kinds of railway structures, as well as locomotives in action. All photographs are accompanied by extensive captions, telling the story of how railways in the area developed over time.
