An illustrated history of the line from Bolton to Preston, which runs through Chorley to join the West Coast Main Line at Euxton Junction, to the south of Leyland. The line also serves two relatively new stations: Horwich Parkway, which opened in 1999 and Buckshaw Parkway in 2011.
As well as carrying local passenger traffic, the line also forms part of a vital link from Manchester to Preston and the West Coast Main Line.
Bolton to Preston takes the form of a journey along the line, using photographs from all periods of railway history to illustrate the story of the line and how it changed over the years. Every station and many other interesting items of railway infrastructure are illustrated along the way. The book also covers Horwich Locomotive Works and the Ribble Steam Railway.
Includes many examples of passenger services and freight traffic on the route and the photographs are accompanied by many maps and track layout diagrams, timetable extracts and other period reproductions. Over 100 photographs. Hardback. 96 pages.
