Michael Marshall has compiled this album of photos of signal boxes from across the former Eastern Region of British Rail taken by Michael Eppinger between 1978 and 1981.
Each caption gives a brief history of the signal box in question, with most of the ‘boxes dating from before the 1923 Grouping although a few modern ‘boxes from the British Railways era are also included.
Locations depicted range from Northumberland Park in Greater London to North Seaton on the former Blyth & Tyne Railway. There are also several photos of ‘boxes in Mr Eppinger’s home county of Lincolnshire and on a number of now closed lines such as the Woodhead route.
Photographs are each accompanied by an informative caption. Hardback. 80 pages.
